The Women’s Ministry Committee of the Presbyterian Church of NSW is seeking a woman to serve as Ministry Wives Chaplain, providing pastoral care, encouragement and support to the wives of ministers, licentiates, Commissioned Gospel Workers, Pastoral Assistants and those in Private Appointments across NSW and the ACT.

At the heart of this role is one-to-one pastoral care: building supportive relationships with ministry wives, sharing Scripture and praying together, and helping women remain connected and supported through the joys and challenges of ministry life.

About the role

The Ministry Wives Chaplain will:

• develop supportive relationships with ministry wives through one-to-one and small-group pastoral care;
• share Scripture and pray with women, and refer to professional services where appropriate;
• develop resources to encourage and equip ministry wives;
• help establish and strengthen networks between ministry wives;
• liaise with Presbytery Wives Champions to support local connections;
• attend key denominational events for connection, including General Assembly and the Ministry Wives and Workers Lunch;
• visit regional Presbyteries over a two-year cycle, meeting with groups or individual ministry wives; and
• liaise with Ministry & Mission regarding Prepare and Sustain programs where appropriate.

The Chaplain will work alongside the Women’s Ministry Facilitator and report to the Convener of the Women’s Ministry Committee. The WMC will provide funded quarterly ministry supervision for the Chaplain in her role.

About you

We are looking for a mature Christian woman with pastoral wisdom, emotional maturity and a heart for encouraging and caring for women in ministry life.

The successful applicant will:

• be a committed Christian who can clearly articulate the gospel and whose life demonstrates growing Christian character;
• be an active member of a Christian church;
• be willing to work within and support the Westminster Confession of Faith and the applicable rules, regulations and policies of the PCNSW;
• have experience and/or qualifications in Christian ministry, chaplaincy or pastoral care. Qualifications in theology, counselling (including biblical counselling), social work or a related discipline will be highly regarded;
• demonstrate pastoral wisdom and an ability to care appropriately for women through a range of life circumstances;
• build relationships with women of different ages and across a range of ministry contexts;
• exercise discretion and maintain appropriate pastoral and professional boundaries and confidentiality;
• be organised, able to work independently and communicate well;
• understand the polity, ministries and culture of the Presbyterian Church of NSW, or be willing to undertake appropriate orientation;
• be comfortable facilitating conversations and small groups both in person and online; and
• hold a current driver’s licence and be willing and able to travel within NSW.

A current Working with Children Check and completion of Breaking the Silence training are also required.

Employment arrangements

This is a 0.4 FTE position (two days per week), commencing February 2027. Remuneration will be in accordance with the applicable PCNSW Ministry & Mission remuneration scale (Deaconess or Commissioned Gospel Worker, as appropriate).

The role involves pastoral care delivered both in person and online, together with travel throughout NSW. For online meetings, the Chaplain will need access to an appropriate private space for confidential conversations.
